Ask about delivery or pickup. Here we have a late Italian Renaissance Buffet Dresser Chest. This buffet dates to the early 1700s or before this time. Easily Circa 1650. This buffet is the oldest piece of furniture that I have restored to this point which I own. I have restored 17th century collectibles before. This is truly from the 18th century or before. It came from Northern Italy and was purchased by an American diplomat. He brought the chest on vacation and stored it in Italy at his dwelling. When he returned to the US, he brought it back. I have had this dresser for about 10 years working on it little by little. When I purchased it, I thought it was pine, I conditioned it each year, to find out it is black walnut. I have restored it so it can be used again. The buffet was built with no hardware other than the locks and key. The locks have been replace at least once. I found the key in between some slats. I do not suggest using the locks for the rivets are not fully aligned. The locks do work, but there is a chance it can jam like the old clocks that stop ticking. You can see how old the chest is,.... by the big gap at the key holes. This gap was made by every day use over the centuries. The dresser never had handles. I ordered carved marble floral handles which can be place on it for necessity. For now, I am keeping the chest as it is and can place the handles upon request. The drawers are dove tailed and the wood is thick and dense. The top drawer has cloth in the back which was left from a restoration job done most likely when the locks were replaced. The cloth is very thick and would be a good indicator of how old the chest is. The marble top extends an inch past the back. The marble would have gone right up to the wall. It is possible this chest had a break front at one time. The marble has no cracks and is in great condition. It is course cut at the edges. No doubt it is Italian. I remounted the columns so they add rigidity once more. I realigned the drawers so they slide in and out and stop at the right positions. The chest is 46 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 40 inches high. Please take in consideration the transportation of this unit, age and the restoration. I do have marble carved handles which I can install. They match the top marble and have been ordered special. Currently there are no holes or handles on the drawers and the drawers were managed by keys. This chest is appraised above 4K for its age, history, craft, materials and condition. It was flown over from Italy in a crate. The chest has all original parts other than one drawer bottom. Drawer insides have been patched so the original parts can remain.
