Hand Carved Asian Rosewood Ebony Marble Victorian Pedestal Table Photos from all sides: https://www.flickr.com/photos/halo-tlc/albums/72157682789542141 Here we have a Hand Carved Asian Rosewood Ebony Marble Victorian Pedestal Table. This table is dated aft mid 1800s. There is no hardware used in the construction of this table. I clamped and reglued all the joints and it is fully restored. The joinery is a pentagon study. The carpentry is next to none done by a master carver. Ship ballast used both marble and solid rose wood planks. They made the best weight for the gondola compartment. The construction of this table was done at a major Asian port. The cherry blossom is a symbol for Asian culture, and in Japan represents Zen. If you're looking for the chinoiserie collection, this find is choice. A twin study can be seen in the collection of East2West Furniture located in St Petersburg, Florida. With this twin study, you can see the need to restore the valuable collections. Joints do need consideration, for 150 years will reshape hardwoods. I like to seal all cracks, for the cracks will carry air and air carries humidity. The saber legs are shaped together like a vase silhouette. This pedestal table was constructed to complement the finest Porcelain Vase and was displayed so. For current needs, this table is great for stylizing a lamp, close to your reading chair, couch, hallway or bedside. I always need that quick saved surface to place my reading glasses and my vehicle keys. The marble is lovely red, pink and white granite, surrounded by carvings of flowers, petals, purse, coin beads, icons, perfume and snuff bottles. The edging is nicely beaded. I took photos of the underside so you can see the geometric construction. Here you can see the natural dark tone of the dense rosewood. The table is quite heavy. It stands 33 inches high, 16 inches in diameter at the top and 17 inches at the bottom. I love carvings and hope that hand carvings can survive the times. Please do compare. This table is appraised above 1.6K in material, craft, condition, age, history, utility and rarity. The art to replicate it by hand is close to gone.
