Description:

Seller’s Description: This1969 El Camino SS396 has become one of the most popular muscle cars ever built. That said, in 1969 the SS396 was an option to the base El Camino. That code, ‘Z25’ included the 396 V8 engine, special domed hood, black center grill, front power disc brakes, sport wheels, wide oval tires, wheel opening moldings, bright engine accents and special chassis features including rear sway bar and rear air shock absorbers. This beautiful '69 El Camino experienced a off-frame restoration completed in 2014 and has been carefully maintained since. Features include a 396cu.in. L89 big block with aluminum intake manifold and aluminum heads. (Only about 400 El Caminos and Chevelles were ordered with the aluminum heads in 1969 as it was a $661 option). This 396cu.in. engine was bored .030 over to 402, blueprinted and the original spec solid lifter cam has been retained. All 396 engines wore chrome valve covers, but only the 350hp and 375hp varieties came equipped with an open-element air filter. The original Holley 4150 has been replaced by an electric choke Holley Street Avenger 770 cfm carburetor. I have the original 4150 carb which will go with the vehicle. The old point/condenser distributor has been replaced with a ‘stock-look’ Pertronix electronic ignition with ‘ignitor III’ technology. The previous owner was a transmission shop owner and restored the original M40 Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 transmission to better then new with all of the best available parts. (VIN stamped on top) The original ZQ9 12-bolt positraction differential is geared, as original, to 3.73:1. The F4 suspension has been restored with air shocks and Super Sport wheels. Power steering, heavy duty battery and heavy-duty radiator have all been retained and restored. The interior is black vinyl with bucket seats, the console is original along with the shifter and the steering wheel is the optional N33 comfort-tilt and N34 sports style 3-spoke wood grain wheel. Everything in the interior was restored using period correct interior products and features all the correct gauges including working factory tach. The original AM-FM radio has been replaced with a ‘Retro Sound’ model#2 radio featuring USB port and blue tooth. Speakers have been added to both the front and rear kick panels producing awesome sound. The body was sprayed with the original Chevrolet color 913 #52 Garnet Red paint. A contrasting black vinyl top and correct SS sport stripping set off the appearance. Wheels are Super Sport and the tires are new BF Goodrich Radial T/A. Power-assisted front disc brakes control stopping. Original rear drum brakes have been upgraded to Stainless Steel Brake Company disc brakes. The entire drivetrain was totally rebuilt. The exhaust sounds awesome featuring stock exhaust manifolds with a stainless steel exhaust system with original style hangers. Detailed with an eye on originality, this El Camino receives lots of compliments and the occasional trophy when I take it to a show. It will compete with most any restoration of today, and is mechanically sound and ready to drive and enjoy with the cooling system and air-conditioning working perfectly here in the Florida heat. This El Camino is a very nice example of a classic muscle car and will vastly improve someone's garage space. I had receipts and a spread sheet documenting an investment of over $50,000 not including my improvements and countless hours of labor. Price: $45,900 negotiable-- Will consider reasonable offers.
