Description:

Very rare Elto "Service "A" outboard motor, serial number 4240034. Restore it, use for decoration, or as a novel conversation piece. I've seen less rare, more rusty models, listed in the $700-$1000 range on ebay. Even then you would be hard pressed to find another "Service A" model for sale. Made in 1932, Elto was Ole Evinrude's company for a few years while he sold the "Evinrude" rights to his business partner, to cover medical expenses and to spend full time with his ill wife. Ole Evinrude invented the outboard motor in 1907 (for his future wife Bess). Elto stands for "Evinrude Light Twin Outboard". Elto the company eventually became OMC. Motor is actually in pretty good condition, though not running. Cylinders are not frozen (there's 2) last I checked. If you wanted to restore it, it would at least need a new coil, plugs, lubrication, and the "Y" shaped water intake piece. There are some places on the net they can be found. Otherwise its all there. This particular motor had a custom water exhaust pipe installed. Hard to pin a price on this, but a restored Elto of this vintage will go for many thousands, I'm letting it go for a song as I don't want to put it in storage. I'm not very keen on haggling, contact me if you really recognize its collectible value. Its a genuine and unusual piece of boating history. Thanks for looking.
